Introducing The Sound of Brownsburg’s 2025 Show “You Can’t Handel This” – a Baroque & Hip-Hop Showdown Like No Other!
Brownsburg, are you ready to drop the bass… and the harpsichord? This marching season, we’re throwing it back—WAY back—to the 1700s, but with a twist that will make even the most serious classical musicians bust a move.
Welcome to “You Can’t Handel This” – a genre-smashing, history-bending, high-energy collision of Baroque brilliance and modern hip-hop beats.
The Concept:
What if George Frideric Handel, the mastermind behind “Messiah” and “Music for the Royal Fireworks,” suddenly found himself in the 21st century? Instead of composing for kings, he’s remixing fugues and dropping beats in the streets. “You Can’t Handel This” brings his timeless music into a world of booming 808s, scratching turntables, and lyrical flows. Imagine Handel conducting a symphony while wearing gold chains and beatboxing with Bach—because that’s exactly the energy this show brings to the field!

The Music:
This show takes some of Handel’s greatest works and reinvents them with a modern groove. Expect to hear:
“Hallelujah… Drop the Beat” – A powerful opening that fuses the famous “Hallelujah Chorus” with a heavy-hitting trap beat, complete with orchestral stabs and deep bass drops.
“Royal Fireworks (and Mic Drops)” – Handel’s “Music for the Royal Fireworks” meets an explosive hip-hop battle, featuring brass fanfares mixed with DJ scratching and dance breaks.
“Baroque & Boujee” – A smooth yet regal take on “Sarabande,” featuring a hip-hop groove, lyrical woodwinds, and a marching band choreography battle where musicians flex their musical dominance.
“The Water Trap” – A remix of “Water Music” set to a thumping hip-hop rhythm, where brass swells mimic ocean waves, and color guard members transform into a royal court ready to dance.
“The Final Fugue” – The grand showdown: Handel’s counterpoint is mashed up with rapid-fire drumline breaks, a dramatic dance sequence, and one last, undeniable mic drop moment.
The Visuals:
The field transforms into a stage fit for royalty and rap stars. Picture this:
The drum majors, dressed as Handel, dramatically stepping up to the podium—only to throw off their wigs and reveal sunglasses and a gold chain.
The color guard wielding gilded feather quills, “writing” music in the air while breaking into dance sequences straight from the streets of 18th-century London.
The winds and percussion decked out in Baroque-style coats… but with sneakers and snapbacks, bringing swagger to every phrase.
Drill moves that seamlessly blend traditional formations with hip-hop-inspired choreography, featuring dance breaks, step battles, and formation changes as sharp as Handel’s harmonies.
Why This Show?
Because music has always been revolutionary! From Handel’s bold, rebellious compositions to hip-hop’s cultural dominance today, “You Can’t Handel This” proves that great music transcends time. This show is about breaking boundaries, taking risks, and proving that a great melody—whether written in 1725 or 2025—can still get people on their feet.
So grab your powdered wigs and your bass drops… because this season, Brownsburg is about to prove that you CAN, in fact, Handel this.
