The 2023-2024 school year was a banner year for Brownsburg Bands programs. For the second time in school history, five different Brownsburg Band & Orchestra ensembles advanced to State Finals: Marching Band, Winter Guard, Winter Percussion, Wind Ensemble and Brownsburg Symphony Orchestra.
Below are some of the awards and recognition earned by our talented student-musicians and student-performers. Marching Band
- Avon Invitational – First place in Open Class
- Bands of America Indianapolis Super Regional Finalist – Fourth place out of 66 bands, their highest finish ever at a BOA Super Regional
- Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Open Class A State Finalist – Third place, their highest placement ever
- BOA Grand National Championships Finalist – Made finals for the second time. Finished in Eleventh place and one of 12 finalist bands out of 92 bands, performing at this event for just the fourth time.
- Performed as part of the Disney Imagination Campus at Walt Disney World in Florida.
- Will perform at the 2024 Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade in Indianapolis, IN
Winter Guards
Open Guard
- Indiana High School Color Guard Association (IHSCGA) Plainfield Contest – First place in Open Class
- IHSCGA Brownsburg Contest – First place in Open Class
- Winter Guard International (WGI) Avon Regional – Third place in Open Class
- IHSCGA State Finals – Second place in Open Class
- WGI Mideast Power Regional in Cincinnati, OH – Fifth place in Open Class
- WGI World Championships – Advanced to semi-finals
Regional A Guard
- Indiana High School Color Guard Association (IHSCGA) Westfield Contest – Second place in their class/group
- IHSCGA Brownsburg Contest – Second place in their class/group
- Winter Guard International (WGI) Avon Regional – First place in Regional A class
- IHSCGA State Finalist – State Champion in their class/group
Cadet Guard
- Indiana High School Color Guard Association (IHSCGA) Westfield Contest – Silver rating
- IHSCGA Brownsburg Contest – Silver rating
- IHSCGA Divisional Finals – Gold rating
Winter Percussion
- Indiana Percussion Association (IPA) Plainfield Invitational – First place in PSO class
- Winter Guard International (WGI) Indianapolis Percussion Regional Finalist – Second place in PSO class
- IPA Brownsburg Invitational – First place in PSO class
- IPA State Prelims – First place in PSO class, advancing to State Finals
- Promoted to World Class (PSW) before IPA State Finals and WGI World Championships
- IPA State Finals – Fourth place in PSW class – first time ever performing in World Class
- WGI World Championships – 14th place in PSW class, first time ever performing in World Class
Concert Bands
- ISSMA Concert Band Festival:
- Freshman Band Purple – Gold rating in performance
- Freshman Band White – Gold rating, with distinction, in performance and in sight-reading
- Concert Band – Gold rating in performance and in sight-reading
- Symphonic Band – Gold rating in performance and in sight-reading
- Wind Ensemble advanced to ISSMA state finals, taking 4th place. This is the highest finish ever for a Brownsburg concert band.
Orchestra
- Freshmen Orchestra – Gold rating at ISSMA Orchestra Festival
- Philharmonic Orchestra – Gold rating with distinction at ISSMA Orchestra Festival, and a perfect sight reading score
- Brownsburg Symphony Orchestra advanced to ISSMA state finals, finishing in the top 8.
Individual Accomplishments
Brownsburg High School Band, 38 total performances from 56 students:
32 solos:
- 25 Group 1 solos – 20 Gold ratings (18 choosing to continue to State) and 5 Silver ratings
- 6 Group 2 – all Gold ratings
- 1 Group 3 – Silver rating
6 ensembles:
- 3 Group 1 ensembles – all Gold ratings (all 3 choosing to continue to State)
- 2 Group 2 – all Gold ratings
- 1 Group 3 – Gold rating
East Middle School Band had 5 ensembles and 19 soloists perform. All received Gold ratings, with 4 “perfect scores.”
West Middle School Band had 24 participants, 23 Gold ratings, 1 Silver rating
Brownsburg High School Orchestra:
- 27 Gold soloists, with 12 choosing to continue to State
- 6 Silver soloists
- 9 Gold ensembles, with 2 choosing to continue to State
East Middle School Orchestra had 24 soloists and 9 ensembles. Each one earned a Gold rating.
West Middle School Orchestra had 15 soloists and 5 ensembles, earning 20 Gold ratings, with 5 perfect scores.
- Kyndra Penny and Graham Bastuk were in All-Region Honor Band.
- Molly Goss was in All-District Honor Band.
- Kierstyn Earnhart was in Jr. All-State Band.
- Seth Koons was in the Indianapolis Symphony Side by Side concert.
- Colin Mendenhall, Sydney Beecham, Koree Arndt were in All State Orchestra.
- Mia Garcia and Austin Kijovsky were in All State Band, and Seth Koons was in All-State Honor Band.
