Frequently Asked Questions
How will music classes help my child succeed academically?
Increasingly, our students are pushed to excel academically and it’s easy to conclude that music participation is a luxury we can’t afford. However, you may be surprised to learn that studies prove that middle and high school students who study instrumental music score significantly higher than their non-band/ orchestra peers on standardized tests, including college entrance exams. Children who are active in school music programs get the unique opportunity to experience the intrinsic value of excellence. Participation in band, orchestra or choir fosters creativity, teamwork and a sense of cooperation among students. Furthermore, music majors are the most likely group of college grads to be admitted to medical school with an impressive 66% admittance rate. (Only 44% of biochemistry majors were admitted.) And most importantly, music is a fun and rewarding activity that can be pursued for a lifetime.
